Robin Fraser

Director International Operations

Robin Fraser is a management consultant, formerly a partner in the UK with Coopers & Lybrand (until recently PwC, and now IBM Business Consulting Services). He has specialized in business planning, performance improvement and cost reduction, and worked with clients in all sectors. While with C&L, he led the development of Priority Base Budgeting (PBB), and headed the firm's Activity Based Management (ABM) practice. He also represented C&L in CAM-I (Consortium for Advanced Manufacturing - International Inc.), leading a research project into budgeting, and co-chairing their Advanced Management Systems program in Europe.

 

For the past five years he has co-led the 'Beyond Budgeting' project with Jeremy Hope, and is now leading the development of the BBRT internationally. He is a regular speaker on 'Beyond Budgeting' at conferences, public courses and in-company workshops. Earlier in his career, he worked in Iran for seven years and was a partner in Coopers & Lybrand's Tehran office. Prior to joining C&L, he took a degree in Chemical Engineering, worked as an industrial engineer in RTZ and British Oxygen, and qualified as a Management Accountant. He is co-author (with Jeremy Hope) of the new book entitled Beyond Budgeting published by the Harvard Business School Press in March 2003.

Jeremy Hope

Jeremy Hope is the author of a number of articles and books on performance management and associated leadership issues. His article on Beyond Budgeting with colleague Robin Fraser won the prestigious IFAC award for best management accounting article of 1998. He is co-author (with Robin Fraser) of a recent article entitled Who Needs Budgets in the Harvard Business Review, February 2003. He is co-author (with Robin Fraser) of the new book entitled Beyond Budgeting published by the Harvard Business School Press in March 2003. He is also co-author (with his brother Tony Hope) of two earlier books, Transforming the Bottom Line (1995) and Competing in the Third Wave (1997), both published by the Harvard Business School Press. Both books have been translated into many languages and won coveted awards in the USA. He has given many keynote speeches at major conferences on performance management topics. He began his career as a chartered accountant and has since had experience in venture capital and business management. For the past five years his work has been focused on "Beyond Budgeting" and he is currently research director of the Beyond Budgeting Round Table (BBRT), an organization dedicated to helping firms improve their performance management processes.

 

 

Peter Bunce

Dr. Peter Bunce is Director BBRT Europe and a co-founder (with Jeremy Hope and Robin Fraser) of the BBRT. Prior to the BBRT Peter managed several CAM-I Programs relating to computer-aided process planning, geometric modelling, factory management and sculptured surfaces. He spent 13 years in industry in Manufacturing Engineering working at various levels for several companies, both large and small. Peter was awarded a PhD for research into the practical applications of Group Technology (Cellular Manufacturing).

Peter has spoken at many conferences and conducted workshops on Beyond Budgeting. He is the module convener for the Global Markets and Future Manufacturing module in The Manufacturing Institute's MSc in Manufacturing Leadership. He is a Chartered Engineer and a member of the UK Institution of Electrical Engineers.

 

 

Steve Player

Steve Player serves as the North American Program Director for the Beyond Budgeting Round Table and is the CEO of The Player Group, a Dallas, Texas based consulting firm. Steve is a licensed CPA and has previously worked as Managing Partner of Arthur Andersen’s Advanced Cost Management Group, as well as, President of the Consortium for Advanced Manufacturing-International (CAM-I). He also founded and manages the Activity-Based Management Advanced Implementation Group (ABM-AIG) whose members include: Coca-Cola North America; Sprint; Harley-Davidson Motor Company and Discover Financial Services.

 

Steve is the co-author/editor of four books on Activity-Based Management, including “Lessons from the ABM Battlefield”. He has been featured in publications such as The Harvard Business Review, Business Finance, the Sloan Management Review and the Dallas Morning News’ Business Section. Steve also regularly publishes case studies which document the successful implementation of the beyond budgeting principles by member organizations.

Niels Pflaeging

BBRT Director South America

Niels Pflaeging is located in São Paulo, Brazil. Niels is president of MetaManagement Group, a management consulting firm serving clients in Europe and South America. Prior to working with the BBRT, he was controller and business controller at Xerox Argentina, Boehringer Ingelheim do Brasil, and ThyssenKrupp Automotive Systems do Brasil.

 

He is author of several articles on management and leadership. Fluent in four languages, he speaks frequently on seminars and congresses, internationally. Niels has published two books on Beyond Budgeting in the German language: “Beyond Budgeting, Better Budgeting” (Haufe Verlag 2003), and the new book “Leading with Flexible Targets. Beyond Budgeting in Practice” (Campus Verlag 2006), which was awarded with the FT Germany/Get Abstract Best Business Book Award 2006. This book is soon to be published in Portuguese language. Niels holds a Master of Economics and Business Administration with specializations in management, marketing and controlling.

Franz Röösli

Franz Röösli is the Beyond Budgeting Round Table Director for the German-speaking countries (BBRT DACH). He is located in Basel, Switzerland, where he is professor for controlling and management processes at the University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland (FHNW)

 

He has experience of many years in controlling and management positions in different companies. He was financial controller with Swissair, head of controlling in a power supply company and at last a member of the management team in an IT company, where he was responsible for all the management processes.

Franz holds a master in business administration and an executive master in business engineering.

Abolghasem Fakharian

Abolghasem Fakharian is the BBRT Director for the Middle East. He is located in Tehran, Iran. He is a member of the High Council of the Iranian Institute of Certified Accountants and a Member of the Professional Accountants in Business Committee of IFAC. He has published more than 50 articles and running numerous conferences, seminars and workshops on management and accounting issues. Abolghasem has been involved with providing management consulting and professional services for about 25 years. He has also been acting as the member of the Board of Directors of various business organizations, including subsidiary companies of the Petroleum Industries of Iran. Abolghasem is the Managing Director of Tadvin Consulting (Ernst & Young Tehran Office).

Mitchell Max

Mitch Max , CA, serves as Director of BBRT's Financial Services group, and is also Managing Partner of The Performax Group, a specialist consulting practice focused on performance management practices and tools for the financial services industry. Mitch has over 20 years of experience both in consulting and management positions in this field. Prior to founding The Performax Group, he led the Cost Management consulting practice at Arthur Andersen in the North American Financial Services industry. Mitch works with major banks and insurance organizations that are beginning to integrate Beyond Budgeting principles and practices into their performance management systems. His specialty also includes the design and implementation of Enterprise-wide Activity-Based Costing solutions and Internal Markets methodologies. Mitch is a frequent speaker and workshop leader in the fields of Planning, Activity-Based Costing other advanced Financial Management practices. His paper, “Budgeting Revisited: Cracks in the Foundation of Bank Performance Management”, was published in the most recent issue of the Journal of Bank Cost & Management Accounting.
